It’s an Insane Wait for Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy on PS4
June 10, 2017I loved Super Mario when I was younger, but no game character captured my imagination as that beloved orange marsupial, Crash Bandicoot. It wasn’t just the challenging platformer gameplay, the quirky jungle levels, the addictive collecting aspects of the Wumpa Fruit, but the catchy music tunes. Since the official music CD was only available in Japan and hard to come by, I ripped all the music to play on a CD-R for my Sony Walkman. Then, later, I ripped all the music from the original trilogy onto my iPod Nano. I still listen to these songs to this day! A nice collection of Crash Bandicoot Action figures line my shelves in my office. But somehow, along the way, kids drifted from conventional platformers to such adult games as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto and original creator Naughty Dog moved to their unprecedented Uncharted and The Last of Us franchises.
Thankfully, Activision is bringing back our beloved Crash Bandicoot platformers for the PlayStation 4, available later this month on June 30, 2017. The collection is simply called: Crash Bandicoot Insane Trilogy. Not only do we get gorgeous high definition remastered graphics, but we get to play the first game with analog sticks rather than the clunky D-Pad. Furthermore, there are numerous trophies to obtain, something that did not exist prior to the PlayStation online era of gaming that Crash emerged from so many years ago.
Somewhere in my photos of past Electronic Entertainment Expos, I have photos of myself with the giant person dressed inside a lifesize Crash Bandicoot costume wandering around the showroom floor. I also have memories of talking to Jason Rubin at E3 about the speech therapy and occupational therapy I did with his original games for children with autism. He told me at the time that many parents of autistic children found Crash Bandicoot a helpful tool for them. Thank you, Activision, for bringing back my youth, for introducing an amazing franchise to a whole new generation, and for keeping the spirit of gaming alive and well. For the mere price of $39..99 for three classics, you can’t go wrong with this pre-order.
