PCT 2016 – Call of the Wild at Bear Ridge

Like his wolf ancestors, my service dog Ray, sits as lone guard to the wilderness, taking in the majestic beauty of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. We were over 9000 feet in this photo, climbing up Bear Ridge, a pack mule unmaintained side trail that would take us from Bear Creek into a much-needed resupply at VVR. Ray, an English Shepherd, was 8 years old when we hiked this portion of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016. Unfortunately, his arthritis and altitude sickness affected him to the point that we did not complete the Pacific Crest Trail that year and made me ultimately acquire and start training my new service dog Jake by November of that year. However, Ray still enjoys helping Jake and I train for more PCT adventures in our local mountain and neighborhood hikes. PCT 2016 photo taken by me, phoenixgenesis, on my iPhone 4 on August 24, 2016.
