Ray the Farm Dog at Natsume E3 2014 Booth
June 17, 2014Before Ray was a signal dog for my hearing impairment and mobility service dog, he was a farm dog in Calabasas, California. For a little over a year, Ray helped his human family with their cat, goats, chickens, and horses. Ray is an English Shepherd breed which is also called The American Farm Dog. This breed is also nicknamed The Farmer’s Shadow because of his intelligence and loyalty to the farmer in following him around, learning his craft, and helping out with various farm related chores such as feeding the sheep. Although he does not possess as much herding instincts as his Border Collie cousin, he does possess a strong pack instinct and has a keen memory of those he has met and loved in the past.
For the last three years, Ray has been a video game celebrity dog, helping to promote the video game industry in numerous ways. His hands down favorite E3 booth is the Natsume exhibit. Not only does it bring a familiarity to it with its farming ambiance, but because of the compassion and love for animals that the Natsume team and creators bring to the Harvest Moon and Hometown Story video game franchises. Ray feels at home here in his capacity as guardian of all creatures great and small as well as his role as video game ambassador. Between the giant inflatable cow, the large plushed horse, and the farm wall with the hand-painted chickens, it was a tough choice for Ray, but he decided to go with the chickens for this photo shoot. Having been born and raised on a commercial chicken farm, I agreed wholeheartedly with his choice. Once again, I thank Natsume for their hospitality and creativity.
